Music

The music that the Roma (especially in Eastern Europe) in own circle is substantially different than the music they play to the public. The melodies sound melancholy. The songs are often about the injustice, the fear and the poverty that they have encountered. They are sung accompanied by string-and (homemade) percussion instruments.

Violinists

Roma are excellent violinists. They may exhibit an astonishing virtuosity. A nice example is the Hungarian Orchestra that was established during a funeral of a well-known musician. Many Roma were here come to joint to make music. As a result, became Hundred Gypsy Violins was established, a great Orchestra, which consists of ca. 100 Roma musicians play that string and wind instruments. They use no sheet music and have no conductor, but their music sounds masterly!

 

Guitarists

A number of Roma has obtained international fame by their virtuoso game. Was the world famous French guitarist Django Reinhardt. As a boy he ran by a fire in the caravan a mutilated hand on. He learned with three fingers on his guitar to play, making him a revolutionary technique developed. With his guitar music is he become legendary. The Gypsy Jazz guitarist Paul Schäfer in Netherlands is a well-known performer of Django's music.
